After reading chapter 6 and 7 of the textbook, Philosophy the Power of Assignment
After reading chapter 6 and 7 of the textbook, Philosophy the Power of Ideas, answer the following questions - Assignment Example ne Descartes, however, realized that although he could doubt everything else, he could not doubt his very own existence because existence is a sine qua non for doubting. His doubting self/existence therefore became the starting point of his theory of knowledge. Having proved his existence, Rene Descartes went on to prove the existence of God. Descartes argued that since doubting is less perfect than to know/knowledge, he was an imperfect being; Descartes realized that there must be a perfect being that does not doubt, a being that knows everything. Descartes concluded that the perfect being is God. Descartes, therefore, argued that God is the truth and all other things share in the truth of God. God therefore became the metaphysical basis of Descartesââ¬â¢ Epistemology. Descartes concluded that everything that we can conceive clearly and distinctly is true because it is a participation God, the truth itself. An evaluation of Descartes theory of knowledge shows that the theory was a phenomenal milestone in Philosophy, the theory challenged Philosophers to base their arguments only on logical truths, rather than, on believes and doctrines that have no logical basis. Question 2. Thomas Hobbes was a thorough going materialist. Hobbes argued that all reality is material, including thoughts, feelings and ideas. Hobbes argued that all reality in the universe can be explained in material form, i.e. in terms of the motions and the interactions of material bodies. For this reason, Hobbes denied existence of any immaterial reality. For this reason, Hobbes saw human beings as machines, operating solely according to the physical laws; For Hobbes therefore all human actions can be explained in terms of cause and effect. An evaluation of this theory reveals one glaring shortcoming: Hobbes did not give a sufficient and convincing account of how human thoughts and ideas are material in nature; Hobbes did not give a convincing argument on how the motions and interactions of

According to the article, many websites provide data manipulation services at the expense of the genuine and well intentioned internet users. For instance, a convicted rape criminal may have a better online personal image than a bank manager through information manipulation. It is proposed that a database depicting real-world reputation be set into place to discourage fake companies from manipulating private data. With internet providing rich or ââ¬Ëbig data,ââ¬â¢ many web based companies are increasingly collecting and using private information for financial gains. Many companies collect and use personal information to target advertisement as seen in increasing junk mails. Companies are using social media information to discriminate employees. Achieving Professionalism -Main theatre Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Achieving Professionalism -Main theatre - Essay Example It has been found that the styles that the leaders incorporate in running the operations and activities of an organization immensely contribute to the success of the firm. It is the responsibility of the managers and directors to ensure that the strategies of leadership that they use in their organizations are effective and efficient. Having visited Johns Hopkins Hospital and evaluated the operations and activities in the hospital, I realized that there are various effects of the leadership strategies that are used to the success of the organization. Being an international hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital offers various medical services to the clients, and its success is influenced by the managerial and leadership approaches that are integrated in the organization. I liked the leadership approaches that are used in Johns Hopkins Hospital because they positively influence every worker in the organization. The employees are considered to be part of the hospital, in the sense that they are consulted in decision-making. The management values teamwork and this positively impacts to the performance of the organization. Patients are offered quality treatment and services because the nurses and medical practitioners in the organization are trained on various skills of handling clients. The management of the organization understands the need of integrating different leadership styles depending on the department and issue to be addressed. For instance, the employees adhere and follow the companyââ¬â¢s code of ethics and codes of conducts, and this helps them in meeting the needs of the employees effectively. Strong leadership that is observed in the organization is achieved because the nurse leaders ensure that every employee offers the highest level of care. The management encourages employees to work closely and take the needs of the patients ahead of their personal issues. The leaders mentor the other nurses and medical professionals in the organization.
Reading Response to Quotes Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Reading Response to Quotes - Assignment Example Abstract imagery is often described as trickery because images like that are not intended to show the world the way it is, but rather give us a perspective from which an artist looks at it. 2. This quote touches upon perspective as the way to both actualize an artist in the imagery he or she creates and accentuate something he or she wants viewers to contemplate again. Many photographs like Nicholas Prior in his Conspiracy of Silence project, where he uses a dirty window between a camera and an object of photography, tend to play with codes of photographic truth to make viewers think metaphorically when they see visual images. All in all, a visual image has always been a powerful tool of communication between those who create an image and those who look at it. 3. It is quite an interesting quote to think about. Visual images, whether it is photography, painting or movie, help us grasp changes that either the world we live in or the inner world of a certain artist go through. In my opinion, when it comes to such an important visual system as perspective it may symbolize the anatomy of impressions and reflections an artist has at certain point, which often directly correlates to perspectives with which he or she chooses to look at the world, objects and

Strategic objectives Essay Example for Free
Strategic objectives Essay Strategic objectives are the core components of strategic planning. Strategic planning involves establishing the direction and scope of an institute or an organization over a lengthy period of time. This process specifically gains advantage over the dynamic environment through structuring the resources and the abilities of the people involved to achieve a certain aim. Therefore, strategic objectives become the center of all the process. Statements of visions are usually wide and do not specify a clear path of actions of achieving them. Mission statements however are more specific, explaining the reasons for the existence of the organization and the how it achieves competitive advantage in the market. Strategic objectives are the elements that come in to make the mission statements operational. They provide clear guidance on how the organizations will move successfully to the drawn overall objective or goal. In other words they help in the achievement of the purpose of the organization. This essay will shortly evaluate Google Inc. in terms of strategic objectives. Google Inc. In order to understand well this concept, I will use Google Inc. as an example to study its strategic objectives and the way it has achieved its management goals. Google fundamentally has its success on a human resource that is managed well. It has focused on developing the potential of the employees who will in turn give success to the company. Google Inc. has seen it right that with the changing market dynamics, businesses are focusing more on developing a competent human resource. This year CNNMoney. om reports that Google Inc. is voted 6th as the best employer in the USA (100 Best Companies to Work for, 2010). Gupta says, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦a brand that is build upon a culture that is high on trust, low on politics, great at sharing resources and sharing the wealth and full of meaning and significanceâ⬠(Gupta, 2009). Googleââ¬â¢s overall objective is ââ¬Å"To organize the worldââ¬â¢s information and make it universally accessible and usefulâ⬠(Why Google, 2010). The organizational goal and vision of Google Inc. rest on the philosophy of workersââ¬â¢ empowerment. The founders, Page and Brin, endeavored that the company be one that is run by the geeks. The business wing of the same goal is to attract the most excellent minds from across the world to work for the company. These two are the specifics that give clarity to the overall goal, which is to make Google an information source. Discussion From the above observation I find out that Google Inc. is at par with its objectives as concerns the purpose of it existence. It is currently the most popular search engine that provides information to millions of people all across the globe. Google has come up with strategic objectives that enable them to draw periodical goals that conform to the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time bound (SMART) objectives. Such strategic objectives are; to widen the human resource for anticipated company growth, venture into international markets and to continue going out of the box; that is development of innovative products. Google has captured the whole purpose without showing exactly the specific strategic objectives but through its company philosophy. This philosophy includes the following aspects. ââ¬Å"Focus on the user and all else will follow, Its best to do one thing really, really well, Fast is better than slow, Democracy on the web works, You dont need to be at your desk to need an answer, You can make money without doing evil, Theres always more information available, The need for information crosses all borders, You can be serious without a suit, Great just isnt good enoughâ⬠(Corporate Information, 2010). These are what it has made those people working for Google be very focused to obtaining a result. The first thing we expect is that the turnover is absent or very minimal, Gupta reports of a rate of 4. 3% voluntary turnover only (Gupta, 2009). Google has also had its revenues growing despite the recent economic recession. The year 2009 first quarter which was announced recently has an increase of 6% higher than that of the same period in the year 2008 which was at 3% (Google Announces First Quarter 2009 Results, 2010). In my opinion this shows that if a company draws clear purposes of existence, backed by a straightforward mission and strategic objectives, it will achieve the overall goal even in tough times.

The Comparison and Feature Similarities Essay Example for Free
The Comparison and Feature Similarities Essay Now comes the interesting part, distinguishing how two completely different advertisements use similar features and techniques to sell products and also compare their varied approach to the reader first lets just pick out the similarities and discuss why these similarities may have occurred;à Use of images, very common, both have images present and also bold fonts and titles that stand out against their background colourà Use of beautiful people both people used in the adverts have white teeth are not over weight etcà Both contain the logo of their product somewhere in the advert, and also the logos both seem to be situated towards the end of the advertà Both people in the image are in their natural state for that particular time, in the morning for breakfast, and at night ready for bed, the attire of both people is nothing exceptional and this will relate to all the ordinary people reading the advert. We can see that these similarities mainly relate to the images and the people in the images. This is because the editor needs to make the reader feel special and no different from the any one else and that what Ruby Wax or the lady from the Kelloggs advert does can be done by the reader in just the same way, whether it means having the same furniture, or eating the same cereal, people always find celebrity related products make them exceptional from the others. Comparisonà Now lets compare the few features that are in both and see how they differ and why this may be;à There is a lot less colour used in the Kelloggs advert compared to the MFI one, this maybe because in the furniture world colour schemes play a big role and the last thing people want is the wrong colour couches for example. Whereas in the world of cereal colour is not such a big issue whereas taste would be the same thing for Kellogg but the other way round, but colour attracts attention when reading a magazine so this may be a flaw to the Kelloggs advert or maybe the MFI just has too much colour it depends. In the MFI advert there is far less text involved that in the Kelloggs one, this is because the main feature of furniture is how it looks, and the best way to sell furniture is to picture it, in full colour and matching its surroundings whereas in terms of cereal factual information such as nutrition details are required and the effects of the cereal, and time periods before you can see the results all add to the better chance of selling the product. Both adverts include a logo at the end of the advert so to speak, and this is a shared feature, they will both want the same result, this is for the reader to remember the name of the brand over all so at least if the name is remembered then all the details will follow when the person sees the name again.à Both scenarios are perfect all the place is tidy and matching in the MFI advert, and the same in the other not that there is much to be messy but the people are all clean, hair done brilliant smile etc, this adds to the attraction and also allows the reader to associate themselves with these people via the product. In both the adverts the positioning of the wording has to be just right, this especially true in the Kelloggs advert as I had identified that mapping theory, this would not be effective at all if the wording was not correctly positioned and also in the MFI advert, if the text was bang in the middle then that would spoil the view of the immaculate bedroom which is the MFI adverts key feature for attracting readers. So the text is place in the corner out of the way giving the main image plenty of space to be recognised. Conclusion So now after analysing two separate adverts we can get quite a clear image of how advertising works and how all its little features add up to successfully sell their product to the wide range of viewers out there, of course there are many different ways of selling a product and to be sure, we have only covered a small amount of the advertising world but from this assignment we have certainly understood how advertising works and the many ways there are to sell something and the many ways people can play with your mind to make you want what they are selling.
